In the wake of the rapid developments between Iran and Israel, “Israeli Channel 12” published a report by its correspondent, Amit Segal, in which he spoke about the intention of Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich to ask the mini-ministerial council, which is being held at eleven o’clock this afternoon, to “turn the equation that Iran tried to impose between itself and Lebanon upside down, and focus on a strong response in Lebanon.” According to Smotrich's equation: "For every Iranian missile, dozens of buildings must be shot down in the southern suburb." The report adds: “According to this equation, 200 or 300 buildings should have fallen tonight in Beirut.” This, in Smotrich's opinion, is "much easier, more available and more effective than a response in Iran, including exploiting an opportunity that would achieve a long-term gain for the security of the people of the north, similar to Operation Silver Plow, during which the Israeli army destroys border villages in southern Lebanon." Smotrich believes, with his proposal, that “it could also push the Iranians to show greater flexibility in negotiations with the Americans, after a month and a half of sticking to their positions and the Americans backing down. In this case, US President Donald Trump will appreciate that as well, and Israel will once again gain points for him thanks to the initiative and boldness that change reality... Trump always likes to take credit for the successes of others, and this is not bad for Israel,” according to Channel 12. As for the Israeli ammunition and efforts allocated to Iran, Smotrich suggests “reserving them for the moment when the decision is made to strike the energy infrastructure, thus paralyzing Iran and bringing down its economy.” In his opinion, “It is unfortunate to waste capabilities in exchanging strikes within traditional equations. In cost-benefit calculations, strikes in nearby Lebanon are more effective than strikes in distant Iran, unless the talk is about a comprehensive step in which one goes to the end without restrictions.” The Middle East region has witnessed a continuous escalation since Sunday night, after Iran launched a missile attack on Israel, following the Israeli targeting of the southern suburb, which necessitated an Israeli counter-attack on Iranian territory, in a scene that may reshuffle the negotiating cards between the United States and Iran.
