Qamati challenges: Israel will leave Lebanon as it did before
Fady Mahouly
Vice President of Hezbollah's Political Council, Mahmoud Qamati, confirmed that the party "bears the responsibility of defending the homeland," stressing that the resistance "will not allow the Israeli enemy to remain inside Lebanese territory."
In an interview with Al Jazeera Mubasher, Qamati said that Israel “did not implement its obligations under the ceasefire agreement,” considering that the continued Israeli attacks and violations confirm that Tel Aviv is still dealing with the agreement with the logic of force and military pressure.
He added that Israel "previously withdrew from Lebanon under the blows of the resistance," referring to the Israeli withdrawal from the south in 2000, considering that the resistance option proved effective in confronting Israel and preventing it from imposing permanent facts inside Lebanese territory.
Qamati stressed that "the resistance is not responsible for Israel's presence on Lebanon's borders," stressing that the party is defending Lebanese territory and sovereignty in the face of what he described as "continuous Israeli aggression."
Qamati's positions come in light of the escalation of internal debate in Lebanon over the future of Hezbollah's weapons and the role of the resistance, in conjunction with the continuing security tension on the southern border, and increasing international pressure related to the implementation of the ceasefire and the recent post-war arrangements.
These statements also coincide with the escalation of political and international talk about the future of southern Lebanon and the role of the Lebanese Army and UNIFIL, amid increasing American and Israeli pressure pushing towards changes in the existing security reality on the border with Israel.
