A member of the Strong Republic Bloc, Representative George Akis, wrote on “X”: “Let it be known that the attempt to divert attention from the centrality of the issue of withdrawing weapons for the majority of the Lebanese, by creating a dispute over the outcome of the ongoing negotiation with Israel, whether it leads to peace, a truce, or simply a cessation of hostilities, is a miserable attempt that will not pass. We are not concerned with anything as much as we are concerned with withdrawing illegal weapons, to save the homeland and build the state. The issue of peace remains in a lower rank. Important, with our firm preference for living in peace in our surroundings, it is certain that withdrawing weapons is the obligatory path to stability, prosperity... and lasting peace.”
