Minister of Education Rima Karami said on Thursday: “The atrocities of the Israeli aggression committed against civilians, educational structures, homes and cities in Lebanon are increasing, the latest of which was the bombing of the Marwahin Public High School building in southern Lebanon today.”
Karami denounced the blatant bombing of a school building devoid of any military or civilian presence, and called out to the global consciences and to the conscience of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Antonio Guterres, and all the United Nations organizations and the major active and influential countries, in order to neutralize civilians, educational institutions, and students, and they paid a heavy price, with dozens of martyrs and wounded among them falling.
She stressed, “Education places are safe spaces dedicated to education, knowledge, social development, and achieving peace.”
Minister Karami called on “major countries and international bodies to move quickly to prevent the targeting of other schools, and requested that exceptional support be provided to advance the educational sector and ensure its continuity, especially since the majority of schools have turned into shelter centers, and that the Ministry’s plan is to ensure the continuity of education even in the most difficult circumstances.”
