US President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that a ceasefire agreement had been reached in the energy sector as part of the war between Russia and Ukraine, stressing that the agreement entered into force immediately. Trump said, in a post on the Truth Social platform, that the two parties agreed to a ceasefire in the energy sector, warning against violating the agreement. He added: "As of now, there is a ceasefire in the energy sector in the war between Russia and Ukraine. Both parties have agreed to this. Do not break it." Trump's statements come at a time when mutual attacks on energy facilities between Russia and Ukraine are escalating, coinciding with American diplomatic moves to discuss stopping attacks on energy infrastructure, especially with the approaching winter. For his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Sunday that Kiev is ready to stop its strikes on Russian oil refineries if Moscow stops its attacks on the Ukrainian energy infrastructure, stressing the need for stopping attacks to be mutual and to include real guarantees. Media reports reported on Friday that Moscow is seeking to obtain relief from US sanctions as part of any agreement to stop attacks on energy facilities, while trying to link the agreement to a ceasefire in the Black Sea. Talks were concluded in Miami on Friday, with the participation of American, Ukrainian and European officials, without announcing a breakthrough regarding the ceasefire. The discussions included security guarantees, reconstruction, and protection of energy facilities.
