The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaya Kallas, visited the Port of Beirut, where she met with the Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director General, Marwan Al-Nafy, within the framework of supporting the port’s role within the maritime security strategy of the Lebanese state. Al-Nafi and Kallas toured the container terminal, where they were briefed on the workflow and procedures adopted in the field of security and safety. Al-Nafi stressed that Callas’s visit “constitutes evidence of the pivotal position occupied by the port of Beirut.” He pointed out that "the European Union was by the port's side, especially in everything related to security and safety." He pointed out that the visit “confirms the importance of the Port of Beirut at the level of the national economy and the region.” He considered that the presence of the High Representative of the European Union today is "an affirmation of the continuation of this support, and of the role that the port plays as the gateway to the East." Al-Nafy stressed that “what was achieved in the port in the field of security and safety came as a result of the procedures and measures that were adopted,” stressing “the continuation of developing them and maintaining the standards that enabled the port to reach the level it is at today.”
