The media office of Prime Minister Nawaf Salam denied the positions being circulated attributed to him after his return from Washington, considering that what is being circulated aims to create disputes between him and the military establishment, the Bank of Lebanon, and the Intra Investment Company. The office explained that Salam did not criticize the army leadership during his visit to Washington, stressing the need to support and strengthen the army’s capabilities to carry out its tasks, and the need to establish a clear mechanism to verify the implementation of the framework agreement, before evaluating the institution’s performance in this field. The office also denied what was attributed to Salam by changing the sect of the Army Commander and the Governor of the Bank of Lebanon, stressing its adherence to Article 95 of the Constitution. As for Intra Investment Company, the media office indicated that its ownership is distributed between the public and private sectors, as the Banque du Liban owns about 35% of its capital, while the Ministry of Finance owns less than 10%, while the rest of the shares belong to private sector investors, from Lebanon, Kuwait, and Qatar, in addition to a number of individual shareholders. He pointed out that the election of the company’s board of directors is carried out in accordance with the Trade Law and the company’s bylaws and based on the rights of shareholders and their ownership percentages, and therefore does not constitute a government decision, stressing that the government has not yet considered the names of the candidates for the presidency of the board of directors, and that Salam has not taken any position in support or opposition to any circulating candidate.
