US State Department spokesman Tommy Piggott commented on the Reuters report regarding Iran sending money to Hezbollah.
He said: "Hezbollah has every motive to promote narratives like this through anonymous sources. It can claim whatever it wants, but the money is not there. Hezbollah has received devastating blows and caused the suffering of hundreds of thousands of innocent Lebanese. It is now trying to save its face through false narratives about the flow of money from Iran. Iran's oil exports are under siege, its currency is rapidly collapsing, and the regime is turning around in fear."
He added: "The United States will continue to strangle Hezbollah's funding sources through sanctions, while supporting the legitimate Lebanese government's ability to rebuild the south. Hezbollah has brought nothing but misery to Lebanon and the people it claims to represent. It has ignited a war on behalf of Tehran, causing billions of dollars in damage. Even if this consolation amount were real, it would not be enough."
He concluded: "Under President Trump's administration, Hezbollah will never be able to regain its strength or rebuild its terrorist infrastructure."
