Member of the Strong Republic Bloc, MP George Adwan, confirmed that “the Lebanese Forces” will not accept to stand by and watch while the government can immediately ease the burdens on the people “in light of the stifling living crisis.”
He said: Why are electricity arrears amounting to about $280 million not collected from state institutions instead of being charged to the citizen?
He added: Why not adopt an escalator for tariffs and increase feeding hours, while two or three additional hours per day will reduce the generator bill and save millions of dollars? Pointing out that every additional hour saves $250 million annually in the pockets of the Lebanese.
He continued: Why insist on a fee of 300,000 liras after fuel prices doubled? Why does the state not bear the cost of the exemptions it granted to the South, amounting to $70 million, instead of passing them on to the citizens?
Adwan pointed out that electricity is a service, not a tax, and it is not permissible to cover the state’s deficit from the pockets of people and depositors, considering that
The Minister of Energy's cry is right, and the government, specifically the Minister of Finance, must respond quickly and shoulder its responsibilities.
He stressed that the priority is to alleviate people's pain, not to increase their burdens.
