President Joseph Aoun received US Congressmen Darin Lahoud and Josh Gottheimer and members of the accompanying delegation. Aoun said, "Lebanon attaches great importance to the United States of America to put pressure on Israel to force it to implement the "Framework Agreement" because it is still refraining from adhering to the provisions of the agreement, even though Lebanon is fully committed to implementing it. The acts of bombing, bulldozing, and destruction in the southern villages occupied by Israel must stop. He described, "Activating the 'Framework Agreement' requires working quickly to complete the return of the Lebanese prisoners, correcting the disputed points along the Blue Line, and the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory and the deployment of the army there, all the way to the internationally recognized southern border." He continued, "Any delay in Israel's implementation of the framework agreement will maintain tension in the south and prevent the state from being able to extend its authority over its entire southern territory, remove armed manifestations, and return the displaced southerners to their villages and towns." He stressed that "it is necessary to provide the Lebanese army with the necessary capabilities to be able to extend state authority in view of the extensive tasks it carries out outside the south, including combating terrorism and smuggling, preserving the eastern and northern borders, maintaining civil peace, protecting institutions, and other tasks undertaken by the army." He pointed out that "the government is committed to implementing financial, economic, and judicial reforms, and several reform laws have been issued, most notably the law amending the banking secrecy law, the bank restructuring law, the media law, and others, and that work is underway to complete the reform process." US Congressman Darren Lahoud said: “We highly value what President Aoun is doing to preserve Lebanon’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, and to extend state authority. We note the results achieved after his meeting with President Trump during his very successful visit. Lebanon has an opportunity to restore stability to it and to the entire region, and it is not permissible to miss it.”
