The Saudi authorities decided to convert in-person classes in schools in the capital, Riyadh, to distance education for a week, starting from Sunday until Thursday.
Parents of students received messages from their children’s schools informing them of converting in-person studies to distance learning from Sunday to Thursday, through the “My School” platform and the approved educational platforms.
According to one of the letters addressed to parents, the decision includes all male and female students, male and female school employees from the educational and administrative bodies.
Parents also received letters from other schools stating that schools would remain closed throughout the week, one of which stated: “The authorities have just informed us that schools will remain closed throughout the week.”
The reason for the decision is not yet clear, which comes in light of escalating tension in the Gulf region and Saudi Arabia being subjected to attacks by the Houthis in Yemen, who are supported by Iran.
