US President Donald Trump, on Thursday, praised the "great friendship" that links him with Chinese President Xi Jinping, during his recent reception at the White House on the occasion of his historic state visit to the United States. “President Xi and I have built a friendship, a truly great friendship, based on mutual respect and the vital interests of our two peoples,” Trump said in a speech he delivered alongside Xi at the White House. Trump explained that he would discuss "pressing issues" including artificial intelligence during his talks with his Chinese counterpart at the White House. Trump stated: “During this visit, we will also discuss pressing issues related to security, technology, and superintelligence (which is the name he has come to call artificial intelligence),” adding, “The decisions we make in these areas today can promote peace and prosperity for decades to come.” For his part, the Chinese President said that the United States and China bear a "historic responsibility" for greater human development, adding: "China and the United States should strengthen communication."
