Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam held a meeting with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, in New York, on the sidelines of the work of the United Nations General Assembly, in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Yousef Raji and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. President Salam stressed that Lebanon has paid a heavy price for its security, stability and economy, and that it does not want to be an arena for regional conflicts or for the exchange of messages. He explained that the relationship between Lebanon and Iran is historic between the two countries and the two peoples, and that Lebanon looks forward to opening a new page in it and building a sound relationship from state to state, based on respect for each other’s sovereignty and independence, non-interference in the other’s affairs, and on common interests. President Salam said: “We wish Iran and its people all the best, security, stability, prosperity and growth.” He also called on Iran to nominate a new ambassador to Lebanon. President Salam stressed that the priority is for Israel to completely withdraw from Lebanese territory and stop its attacks, and to continue extending the authority of the Lebanese state over its entire territory and confining weapons to its hands.
