US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on Tuesday that Washington is open to holding a meeting with the Iranians on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly sessions, pointing out that there is currently no meeting scheduled. Rubio affirmed that the goal is for Iran to never possess a nuclear weapon. He explained, saying: "We are facing an extremist religious regime; you see how they treat their people, and you see the scale of destruction and massacres they have committed, and such a group can never possess a nuclear weapon." Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, the US Secretary of State said: "We are now at a level ranging between 60% and 70% of the oil flows that used to exit through the Strait of Hormuz, and this percentage is increasing."
