MP Gebran Bassil launched a scathing attack on the government during the government questioning session in Parliament, asking: "Your slogan is reform, so could you guide us to your reform?". He said: "You promised neutrality and became a government of axes, you promised sovereignty and turned into a government of submission to the outside, and you opened the files of sedition through weapons and a general amnesty, and you have no plan for reform", describing it as a "government of sedition, axes, surrender, darkness, taxes, and promises without results". Regarding the file of weapons, Bassil affirmed his support for restricting them entirely "after Hezbollah's failure to defend Lebanon", but stressed that "it is not permissible to act with bravado or harm a core Lebanese component", calling for changing the course and developing a national security strategy. Addressing the government, he added: "You took the vote of confidence as a result of understandings you made, and we have not seen until now a draft national security strategy to implement the restriction of weapons, nor have you formed a committee or held any meeting, and in return you approved a paper that came to you from abroad and took decisions you did not implement." Bassil announced his support for negotiations with Israel, saying: "We are with negotiation because Hezbollah's weapons are no longer able to protect Lebanon, and we are with any agreement that achieves Lebanon's interests in sovereignty and rights." He also warned against entering the Iranian-Gulf conflict, considering that "Iran is using Lebanon as a commodity." Regarding the relationship with Syria, he called for building good relations with Damascus in a way that serves Lebanon's interest, stressing that the current Syrian regime should not have any sectarian extension in Lebanon. He said: "No one can put the army in confrontation with the Sunni sect because it is the reservoir of the army, and it cannot be put in confrontation with the Shia because this is a political problem." In economic and financial affairs, Bassil accused the government of striking the resilience of the Lebanese through taxes and resorting to their pockets whenever it fails to solve a problem, describing it as a "government of taxes", and asked it: "Where is the implementation of the law on looted funds?" He criticized the move towards forensic auditing in the file of power barges instead of Banque du Liban, considering that the government wants an audit "out of political spite", and that it is using the file to justify its failure in electricity, after the judiciary has said its word in it. As for the Free Patriotic Movement, Bassil said that the rhetoric against it has been built for years, calling on anyone who possesses evidence against the movement to go to the judiciary.
