The announcement of the wedding in the historic palace had opened the door to objections regarding the scale of the celebration and its presumed cost, amid the ongoing repercussions of the war on thousands of southern families who continue to bear the burdens of displacement and economic losses. For his part, MP Ali Hassan Khalil issued a statement in which he said the following: "I did not want to respond to the campaigns of defamation and slander, but out of respect for friends, loved ones, and the public opinion—which has the right to know the truth of matters—I will suffice by saying: My son's marriage took place a few days ago at the bride's home and was strictly limited to the two families. As for the wedding occasion that was scheduled at the family home in Khiam, specifically on 6/6/2026, it was cancelled along with the dinner a long time ago due to the circumstances, and everything else is a recycling of narratives fabricated by their promoters. We have gotten used to them and to their various and fabricated forms, including over the past few days, the reposting of a picture from an honoring ceremony for journalists that took place in 2016 in Khiam as if it were in France, in an attempt at defamation within the same context."
