This afternoon, the President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, chaired a security meeting at Baabda Palace, attended by the Commander of the Army, the Director-General of the Internal Security Forces, the Director-General of General Security, the Director-General of State Security, the Director-General of Civil Defense, the Director of Intelligence, the Head of the Information Branch in the Internal Security Forces, the Head of the Information Affairs Office in Public Security, and the Deputy Director-General of State Security. The meeting was devoted to discussing the security situation in the south in general and in the Nabatieh region in particular, where security leaders presented detailed reports on the situation in the region in its various aspects. During the meeting, President Aoun stressed that any security vacuum in the south constitutes a pretext for attacks and a violation of national sovereignty, considering that the security deployment in Nabatieh is linked to the obligations of the Lebanese state and its negotiating position in the file with Israel, given that controlling internal security strengthens the official Lebanese position. The President of the Republic spoke about the role of the army, considering that it is the backbone of stability in the region, and that its work is in harmony and complementary with the work of other security services, noting its role in protecting infrastructure and vital roads and ensuring the return of people to their towns. President Aoun stressed the importance of permanent coordination between Public Security, State Security, Internal Security Forces, and Civil Defense, to avoid duplication of effort and intersection of powers, with the importance of periodic evaluation of the current reality, calling on the security services to assume their responsibilities, stressing that the security of Nabatieh and areas not subject to Israeli occupation is an integral part of the security of one Lebanon. In another area, President Aoun stressed during the meeting that he stands by the military and their rights, both retired and those still in active service, because the sacrifices made by the army and security forces are not limited to a specific time, calling for reconciliation as much as possible between the state’s capabilities and capabilities on the one hand, and the rights of the military on the other hand, and working to achieve whatever demands possible, while maintaining the financial balance and the steps that the government is taking to restore financial and economic progress.
