On Monday, the American Fox News channel reported that President Donald Trump threatened to bomb the Sultanate of Oman if it “obstructed” American measures in the Strait of Hormuz, in response to a question about discussions between Tehran and Muscat to agree on arrangements regarding the vital corridor for global energy supplies. The channel's correspondent, Trai Yingst, said that he asked Trump about the ongoing negotiations between Iran and Oman, and he replied, "If there is any obstruction from Oman, we will bomb them hard." The correspondent explained in statements to his channel published on his account on the “X” platform, “The President warns Oman not to obstruct the American naval blockade and American efforts to control the Strait of Hormuz.” Trump has repeated in recent days that the United States "controls" the Strait of Hormuz, a claim rejected by Iranian officials. Iran has practically closed the Strait since the start of the war in the Middle East with an American-Israeli attack on it on February 28 In exchange for Iran continuing to restrict navigation in the strait, the United States imposed a blockade on the ports of the Islamic Republic. Iran insists that navigation in the Strait be under its supervision, and through a northern route that it has determined itself and passes along its coast, and has rejected a southern route designated by Muscat. The two parties have recently been holding discussions regarding agreeing on a new path. Tehran announced in early August that it had reached an agreement with Oman on a new route for ships to cross, but Iranian sources confirmed to local media that reopening the strait would depend on the behavior of Washington, which is blockading the ports. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei confirmed that discussions with the Sultanate are continuing in a “serious” manner. He said in his weekly press conference: “Views are being exchanged regarding the text of the joint declaration, and the two parties have so far demonstrated their determination to establish a mechanism that achieves the interests of each of them, takes their concerns into account, and takes into account considerations related to international navigation.”
