The Public Prosecutor at the Court of Cassation, Judge Ahmad Rami Al-Hajj, issued a statement addressing the measures taken against Mr. Riad Tawfiq Salameh, who was detained at Bhannes Hospital, which includes the following: 1- Following the availability of information regarding the presence of Mr. Riad Tawfiq Salameh at Bhannes Hospital and the verification of this information, the search and investigation warrant issued against him by the Discriminatory Public Prosecutor under report number 1666/2026 dated 31/7/2026 was executed by the Central Criminal Investigation Department. 2- In light of what was circulated regarding the health condition of Mr. Riad Tawfiq Salameh, he was examined at Bhannes Hospital by Major Physician Ismail Diab, and all medical tests that had been conducted for him were reviewed. The report drawn up by the aforementioned physician major on 1/8/2026 concluded that it is possible to discharge him from the hospital on condition that he is placed in Roumieh Prison while subject to monitoring of his blood pressure, being given his medications, and being allowed to use an oxygen generation machine. 3- Based on the aforementioned stability in the health condition of Mr. Riad Tawfiq Salameh according to the condition he was in prior to his initial detention, especially since he suffers from high blood pressure as stated in the medical reports that his counsel consistently submitted as a justification for his failure to attend every interrogation session to which he was summoned—this medical condition which is treated through his regular intake of blood pressure medications—it was decided to transfer him to the Information Branch detention cell at Roumieh Prison, given that Bhannes Hospital is not a place of detention and has no contract in this regard with the General Directorate of Internal Security Forces, in addition to what was previously pointed out regarding his blood pressure rates being stable at the condition he has been in for a long time, and the physician's report leaning toward there being no need for him to remain in the hospital. 4- Following his transfer to the Information Branch detention cell at Roumieh Prison, a private room was allocated to him, and the presence of the oxygen machine in his room was permitted. All the medications he needs were also received under the care of the Internal Security Forces medical staff. We also decided to allow his private physician, Dr. Alexander Khoury, to go to the detention cell and verify the medications handed over to the Internal Security Forces medical team and likewise verify the oxygen machine and his medications, given that Dr. Khoury had conducted an in-person attendance with him on 31/7/2026 until he visited the Information Branch detention cell. 5- It turned out that Mr. Riad Tawfiq Salameh, as soon as he was transferred to the Information Branch detention cell, decided to refrain from taking his medication, specifically the pills for treating the chronic blood pressure he suffers from, in addition to refraining from eating food. 6- On 2/8/2026, pursuant to our instructions and at twelve o'clock noon, we brought Mr. Riad Salameh's physicians, Riad Sarkis and Alexander Khoury, to inspect and examine Mr. Riad Salameh at his initial place of detention in the cell, and a report was drawn up in this regard numbered 24/2026 dated 2/8/2026. This report included the detained Riad Salameh's response of refusing to take his medications. The two physicians were also informed of the Discriminatory Public Prosecutor's instruction regarding the possibility of them, or whoever they delegate as a physician or nurse, attending Riad Salameh's place of detention to conduct the necessary medical examinations. Both physicians and the detainee Riad Salameh signed all these details mentioned in the aforementioned report. 7- Moreover, despite Mr. Riad Salameh's persistence in his stance of refusing to take his medication despite the medical care with which he was surrounded and the provision of all medical facilities to his physicians Sarkis and Khoury, the Discriminatory Public Prosecutor tasked the head of the Medical Center with assigning a private nurse to undertake round-the-clock medical monitoring for the detainee Riad Salameh to ensure the stability of his health condition, particularly regarding his blood pressure rate. Since 2/8/2026, several medical reports have been drawn up in this regard as a result of those examinations, which included that his general condition is stable and that there is no need for hospital admission, until it turned out at 21:00 that the detainee Riad Tawfiq Salameh had eaten a meal in addition to taking two pills of medication at 20:50 and 21:30. 8- On 3/8/2026, the detainee Riad Tawfiq Salameh was transferred to Dahr Al-Bashek Hospital, and a private room equipped with all necessary medical devices was allocated to him in order to conduct the necessary medical tests for him and ensure the safety of his health condition, due to his refusal since the morning of this day to eat food and take the blood pressure medications that must be taken. Despite his transfer to the hospital, he remained refraining from taking his medications, and all of this was documented in report number 22/2026 dated 3/8/2026 drawn up by the Brummana Outpost. Riad Tawfiq Salameh signed a form notifying him of responsibility after being explained by the treating physician that his refusal to take medications may lead to a risk to his life, only to return and state on the fifth page of the aforementioned report his consent to take his treatment and medications. Therefore, and based on all of the above, the Public Prosecution at the Court of Cassation, in the person of the Discriminatory Public Prosecutor, places this medical information regarding the condition of Mr. Riad Tawfiq Salameh before Lebanese public opinion out of a desire against any inaccurate or incorrect interpretations or sayings, and to emphasize the relentless keenness on the safety of any prominent detainee and the provision of all requirements of medical care and appropriate treatment for him, while noting the relentless and major medical effort exerted by the security forces, especially the care of the Internal Security Forces, to provide all requirements of medical and health care for the detainee Riad Tawfiq Salameh despite his repeated refusal to take his medications, in order to intentionally and deliberately place himself in a critical health condition.
