Salam: The war is imposed on Lebanon and the priority is to stop it and rebuild
Fady Mahouly
The Lebanese Prime Minister confirmed that Lebanon is still living under the burden of a harsh war that was not the Lebanese's choice, pointing out that what struck the south, the Bekaa, Beirut and its suburbs was not limited to specific areas, but rather affected the entire country.
He stressed that this war was not the war of the Lebanese, especially the people of the south, considering that it is not permissible to reverse the facts or hold the state responsible for what it did not decide. He added that the state was not the party that took the decision on what he described as the “war of support,” neither in its first nor in its second phase.
He pointed out that the continuation of the war led to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of citizens, warning of the escalation of treasonous and threatening rhetoric because of the direct danger it poses to the lives of the Lebanese.
The Prime Minister stressed that the priority today is to stop the war and destruction, and work to return the displaced to their areas, in addition to launching the reconstruction process.
He concluded by emphasizing that Lebanon does not belong to anyone, but rather to all of its people, and that no one is above the state or has the right to monopolize patriotism, calling for not dragging the country into war and preventing the Lebanese from questioning its causes.
