A senior official in the US administration revealed significant and decisive progress in the text of the expected draft agreement with Iran, pointing out that the two parties are close to reaching the “finish line” and that Washington expects to officially sign the agreement within the next few days. The official pointed out that the current draft guarantees long-term peace in the region and formulates a clear path to dismantling the Iranian nuclear program, noting at the same time that Tehran will not obtain any gains simply by signing, but rather progress will be linked to actual implementation on the ground. He stated that the agreement includes strict strategic provisions that include reaching a precise agreement on the details of the destruction and removal of enriched materials. Under this clause, the United States will obtain the enriched materials to ensure that they will not be used in the future. He also explained that the agreement imposes a comprehensive and strict inspection system to ensure Tehran's full compliance. It stipulates ending the navigation crisis by reopening the Strait of Hormuz and lifting the imposed blockade. Regarding the sanctions imposed on Tehran, he made it clear that lifting the embargo and easing sanctions would be entirely dependent on Iranian performance, saying: “The Iranians will not get anything by simply signing. The benefits will accrue to Iran if it actually implements the agreement, and if it complies, it will be rewarded economically. The better the Iranians’ performance, the greater their gains and the more they will see a significant easing of sanctions.” The official confirmed that the understanding includes Lebanon, Iran, the Gulf states, and Israel. He pointed out that although the talks have not yet reached the finish line, indicators confirm that “we are very close” to completing the historic agreement.
