The 2026 World Cup kicked off at the "Azteca" Stadium in Mexico City, in an expanded edition featuring 48 national teams for the first time, lasting for about six weeks.
The Mexican national team opens its tournament journey with a match against the South African national team today, Thursday, June 11, on the pitch of Mexico City Stadium.
The match takes place within the framework of Group One, which also includes South Korea and Czechia, in a symbolic repetition of a historic encounter dating back to the 2010 edition.
Mexico City Stadium is considered one of the most symbolic stadiums in World Cup history, having hosted the finals of the 1970 and 1986 editions and witnessed immortal moments by legends such as Pelé and Diego Maradona. The stadium will also host five matches in this edition, including matches for the Mexican national team in the group stage and encounters in the knockout rounds.
