President of the Republic Joseph Aoun said before a delegation of representatives in the French and European Parliament that: “Lebanon always looks forward to effective support from the European Union at various levels, especially support for the army, security institutions and the economic situation, especially since what the Union is supposed to provide must be equal to what Lebanon represents to European countries and the contributions it has made and continues to make in stopping the migration of displaced Syrians to these countries since the beginning of the events in Syria in 2011.” He added: “The collective contribution under the supervision of the European Union will be more effective, especially if the interests of countries are distributed among the various areas that Lebanon needs.” President Aoun pointed out that: “Israel’s withdrawal enables Lebanon to extend its authority, end armed manifestations, and withdraw any justification for maintaining weapons other than those of the legitimate authority and its armed forces.” He concluded: “It is important to adopt a political, military, economic and social approach to the issue of withdrawing Hezbollah’s weapons with the aim of preserving political, security and social stability in the country.”
