The General Directorate of Internal Security Forces - Public Relations Division issued the following statement: Based on the reference of the competent judiciary, the General Directorate of Internal Security Forces circulates a photo of the detainee: H. for. M. (Born in 1979, Lebanese), who has a history of fraud and forgery crimes. He was arrested for the crime of fraud and deception through social media sites, after he used a Facebook page and a foreign phone number, to delude his victims, the majority of whom were of Syrian nationality, of his ability to secure entry visas for them to European countries, in exchange for sums of money. In order to gain their trust, during his communication with his victims, he required the presence of a “guarantor” during the meeting that took place in his car, after agreeing on the amount of money to be paid. Then he proceeds, fraudulently and with sleight of hand, to replace the amount of money he had received from the victim with another similar in size, but of much less value, and composed of low-value currencies. Then, he places this amount inside an envelope, seals it and signs it, before handing it over to the victim and the guarantor, under the pretext of keeping it until the fake “visa” is issued, in order to reassure them and make them believe the procedures are serious, then he disappears from sight. As a result of the follow-up, it was found that the detainee carried out multiple fraudulent operations, the most recent of which was to steal an amount of $21,000 from one of his victims. Therefore, this General Directorate requests those who fell victim to his actions and knew him, to contact the Information Division on the number 1788 in preparation for taking the necessary legal measures. This General Directorate warns against falling victim to similar fraudulent operations, and calls on those wishing to obtain visas to travel abroad to resort exclusively to the relevant embassies. It also asks them to verify the accuracy of advertisements related to this issue on all social media networks, by reviewing the website of the relevant embassy before taking any action, to avoid falling victim to fraudulent networks.
