The Office of Media Affairs at the General Directorate of Public Security said the following statement: “Some media sites and social media outlets are circulating the names of some officers affiliated with the General Directorate of Public Security under accusations without any evidence. He stressed that these actions fall within the framework of the crimes of defamation, slander and slander stipulated in the Lebanese Penal Code, and the General Directorate of Public Security reserves the right to bring charges against anyone who harms its reputation and the reputation of its officers and members. The General Directorate of Public Security asked for accuracy in approaching any news or information it or any of its employees receive, under penalty of taking appropriate legal measures against the perpetrators. It also expresses its readiness to provide any clarifications or receive any concrete information in accordance with the applicable legal frameworks and the mechanism for submitting complaints, whether via the hotline, the complaints division, or e-mail. The General Directorate of Public Security called on citizens and all media and social media outlets to exercise national responsibility and not harm the security services without conclusive evidence, especially in light of the presence of an independent judicial authority that makes Lebanon distinguished in establishing rights and ensuring the rights of all its citizens without any discrimination. She said that the mutual trust between citizens and the law enforcement authorities in Lebanon, led by the Lebanese army, constitutes a guarantee in preserving the security of the country and the rights of its people, and that breaking its prestige only serves the parties that are lurking in the country to undermine its stability.
