Chinese President Xi Jinping received his American counterpart, Donald Trump, in Beijing, where they will hold a summit to discuss many controversial issues and their global repercussions, starting from trade to Iran and Taiwan.
Xi welcomed Trump to the Great Hall of the People, and Xi shook hands with several American officials, including Defense Secretary Peter Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who has been known throughout his career as a fierce opponent of Beijing.
Trump told his Chinese counterpart on Thursday that the two superpowers would have a "wonderful future" as they met for talks in Beijing.
"It is an honor to be with you. It is an honor to be your friend, and the relationship between China and the United States will be better than ever," Trump said at the meeting held in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. He added that the two countries will have a "wonderful future." We look forward to establishing great business relations with China.
Chinese President tells Trump that their countries should be "partners, not adversaries"
In turn, the Chinese President told his American counterpart that their countries should be "partners, not adversaries." The stable relationship between Beijing and Washington benefits the entire world. When we cooperate, both parties benefit, and when we confront, we are both harmed.
He said, "Cooperation benefits both sides, while confrontation harms them. We must be partners, not adversaries," adding that he was "happy" to receive Trump on the first visit of an American president to China since 2017, while "the world is at a crossroads."
