The American Wall Street Journal revealed that the UAE launched military operations against Iran early last month. The newspaper noted that the UAE’s attacks targeted an oil refinery on the Iranian island of Lawan, and coincided “almost” with US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a “ceasefire,” after an aerial bombardment campaign that lasted five weeks. The newspaper quoted an unnamed source as saying that the United States secretly welcomed the Emirati attacks and any participation from another Gulf country wishing to join the fighting. Iranian official television reported on the morning of April 8 about “carrying out attacks with missiles and drones on the Emirates and Kuwait, a few hours after targeting oil facilities on Lawan Island in Iran.” He said that the Lawan facility was “subjected to a cowardly attack” at ten in the morning (06:30 GMT).
