Israeli army spokesman Avichai Adraee wrote on the X platform: “Following the incident in which an IDF soldier was documented insulting a Christian religious symbol in southern Lebanon several weeks ago, the incident was investigated by commanders in the field and was then summarized by the commander of the 162nd Division. At the conclusion of the investigation, the soldier who was documented committing the act was sentenced to 21 days in military detention, while the soldier who filmed the incident was sentenced to 14 days in military detention. The IDF views this incident with extreme seriousness, and expresses its respect for freedom of religion and worship, as well as for holy places and religious symbols of all religions and sects. Instructions regarding dealing with religious institutions and religious symbols are emphasized in front of the forces before they enter the relevant areas in an orderly manner.”
