The Secretary of the Engineers Syndicate in the North, Engineer Safwan Shahal, was exposed to gunfire by unknown assailants in the Abu Samra district of Tripoli, which led to his wounds, after which he was transferred to Al-Shifa Hospital for treatment.
The Engineers Syndicate in the North issued a statement denouncing the exposure of engineer Al-Shahal to gunfire in Tripoli, and considered that “directed bullets are a stab in the side of stability.” She said: “With great dissatisfaction and anger, we received the news that our colleague Dr. Safwan, Secretary of the Engineers Syndicate in the North, was exposed to a sinful shooting incident that clearly reflects the state of security chaos and lack of discipline that has begun to disturb the citizens of the city of Tripoli.
We, after reassuring our colleague Dr. Safwan of his safety, denounce “this cowardly act that targeted a university professor and a trade union and professional figure known for his generosity and integrity, and we consider that these bullets were not only directed at his person, but rather a targeting of all the values of institutional work he represents.”
She continued: "Tripoli refuses to become an arena for rampant weapons that threaten the security of innocent people in their homes and businesses."
I called on the security and judicial services to move quickly and strike with an iron hand to uncover the circumstances of this attack, arrest the perpetrators, and bring them to justice, so that they can be an example to everyone who dares to tamper with the security of the city and the safety of its people.
It renewed its full solidarity with Dr. Safwan and his family, and “we pledge to our colleagues in the Engineers Syndicate to remain one voice against injustice and chaos.”
