This afternoon, the President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, received a phone call from Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and discussed with him the general situation in Lebanon and the region in light of recent developments, especially the ongoing preparations for holding the third meeting in Washington regarding direct negotiations between Lebanon and Israel.
President Carney affirmed Canada's support for President Aoun's negotiating initiative and the decisions taken in this regard. He also affirmed that Canada stands by Lebanon in the critical circumstances it is going through, and is working to end the suffering of the displaced people who were forcibly displaced from their villages.
The President of the Republic thanked the Prime Minister of Canada for the support that Lebanon receives from him and his country in all fields, stressing the ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, in addition to the strong ties between the Lebanese and Canadian peoples. President Aoun asked President Carney to help Lebanon put pressure on Israel to cease fire and refrain from targeting civilians, first responders, humanitarian workers, and media professionals, as well as to stop destroying the towns and villages it occupies and bulldozing their homes.
