Guterres noted, "Several areas in Lebanon have become a scene of destruction, and my message to all parties is to stop the war and adopt diplomacy and dialogue. We are making efforts to reduce the escalation, stop hostilities, and bring the parties to the dialogue table at a time when the Lebanese people did not choose this war. Civilians must be respected and protected, and infrastructure should be avoided."
The Secretary-General of the United Nations stressed that, "We will continue to provide support to strengthen the Lebanese Armed Forces, and Resolution 1701 must be implemented. Israel must respect Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the war must stop. Hezbollah must also respect the Lebanese government's decision to restrict weapons to the state."
Guterres reiterated that "we are doing our best to provide support to the people and the Lebanese government, and attacks on UNIFIL forces are unacceptable and must be stopped because they are a violation of international law."
