The Secretariat of the Maronite Patriarchate issued a statement in which it announced that the Mufti of the Lebanese Republic, Sheikh Abdel Latif Derian, made a call to the Maronite Patriarch, Cardinal Mar Bechara Boutros Al-Rahi, to reassure him of his health, and to strongly denounce the abuse directed at him.
According to the statement, Mufti Derian affirmed his “full solidarity with Patriarch Al-Rahi, stressing that these insults do not only affect a specific person or authority, but rather affect the core of national dignity and harm Lebanon’s image and values.” He also announced his support for the Patriarch, stressing that Dar Al-Fatwa, with all its authorities and religious bodies, stands united in support of him.
The secretariat added, "This position confirms that the attack on spiritual symbols is an attack on national unity, and that Lebanon, in its diversity, remains stronger than all attempts to undermine its symbols or sow discord among its people."
In turn, the Secretariat of the Maronite Patriarchate announced in a statement that the Maronite Patriarch, Cardinal Bechara Boutros Al-Rahi, received a phone call from the Sheikh of the Mind of the Unitarian Druze sect, Sheikh Sami Abi Al-Munna, during which he was reassured about his health, expressing his strong denunciation of the abuses to which the Patriarch and the Patriarchate were subjected.
Abi Al-Muna considered that “what happened constituted an attack on the dignity of the nation, because of the national and spiritual reference that Patriarch Al-Rahi represents, and because of the comprehensive position that Bkerke represents in Lebanese life.”
According to the statement, Abi Al-Muna emphasized his support for the Patriarch, stressing his complete solidarity with him in the face of everything that would undermine the symbolism of Bkerke or harm the principles of coexistence, “in a position that reflects the unity of spiritual references in defending Lebanon’s dignity and stability.”
