In his first comment on the statement issued by the US Embassy in Beirut, in which it called on the President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, to hold a direct meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nabih Berri, said that the statement expresses itself, and I have nothing to add to it, stressing that he turned off his engines, and that his answer to the President of the Republic “came in response to what he said while receiving the economic bodies” (referring to what Aoun said about full coordination with Berri regarding the negotiations), and this is what It lies behind his apology for not attending the meeting that was scheduled with President Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam at the Republican Palace. President Berri said in an interview with Asharq Al-Awsat: “The so-called truce allowed Israel to continue its aggression and commit massacres in an unprecedented manner, without the intervention of the United States of America to oblige it to stop hostilities and establish a ceasefire, especially since it was behind reaching an extension of the truce, which calls on it to respect its pledge to the Lebanese and the international community. Otherwise, what is the point of negotiations under Israel’s pressure with fire? What will we say to the families of the martyrs? Israeli treachery from the southerners?
