The claim that villages in southern Lebanon were deleted from Apple Maps... What is the truth?

econ.pen wrote on its Instagram account: Posts have spread on the Internet claiming that Apple has removed the names of villages in southern Lebanon, especially in areas where there is an Israeli military presence.
The claim quickly spread, raising concerns about visibility and representation on global platforms. But these allegations are not true. Most of these villages were not originally listed, and the problem is not limited to the south of the country.
Across Lebanon, many towns and villages lack a label or appear inconsistently on Apple Maps, due to map coverage varying from country to country. Apple documents show that features such as detailed maps and directions services are not fully supported in Lebanon. That's why many users in Lebanon rely on Google Maps, which provides broader local coverage.
Users who contacted Apple reported that this is not a new problem. Rather, it reflects the limitations of map data, rather than a recent deletion. In this context, cybersecurity expert Roland Abi Negm confirmed in a post on the X platform that this claim is “fabricated,” and comes within the context of a broader psychological war.
