The Lebanese Red Cross announced that at approximately 8:15 pm on Sunday, April 12, while carrying out a humanitarian mission at a site on the road to the town of Beit Yahoun in the Bint Jbeil district, Red Cross teams were directly targeted by an Israeli drone, which led to the death of paramedic Hassan Badawi and the injury of another paramedic with minor injuries. They were both transferred to Tibnin Governmental Hospital. He pointed out that before carrying out the mission, the necessary communications had been made with UNIFIL forces in order to ensure protection and a safe path.
He added that the Lebanese Red Cross is extremely concerned about what its ambulance crews are exposed to, pointing out that the ambulances were clearly carrying the Red Cross insignia and illuminated from all sides, in accordance with the standards approved for various missions, especially in the southern border areas, and in coordination with UNIFIL and the International Committee of the Red Cross to ensure a safe path.
The Lebanese Red Cross strongly denounced this targeting, stressing that its crews continue to perform their humanitarian duty in compliance with the basic principles, most notably neutrality, impartiality, independence and humanity, considering that what happened constitutes a continuation of clear violations of the rules of international humanitarian law.
