He pointed out that members of the municipal police came to the place immediately after the problem occurred, and worked to contain the situation, as they advised Naeem to leave in order to calm the atmosphere and avoid any friction or escalation, but he insisted on staying and provoking, which coincided with an altercation between him and a number of young men gathered in the area. Al-Zein pointed out that the atmosphere witnessed tension and provocations by Naeem and his companions, noting that one of Naeem’s companions brandished a weapon, an act he described as unfortunate, especially in light of the delicate and sensitive circumstances that Lebanon is going through, and the necessity of exercising responsibility and self-control and avoiding everything that might threaten civil peace. The mayor stressed that the Sidon neighborhood welcomes everyone, and that preserving the security and safety of everyone who visits the area is an uncompromising priority, emphasizing the rejection of any exposure to any person or visitor, and the necessity of resolving differences away from provocation, tension, and actions that may lead to aggravation of the situation, but Naeem’s provocation of the young men prevented that. Al-Zein concluded by stressing that the municipality of Haret Saida will continue to carry out its responsibilities in maintaining security and stability, and working to prevent friction and protect civil peace, calling for the language of reason and dialogue to prevail, and for calm and responsibility, in a way that preserves the safety of everyone and preserves the stability of the region.
