Energy Minister Joe Seddi announced, during a press conference today, that he decided to refrain from attending Cabinet sessions until the required decisions are taken regarding the electricity sector, especially the payment of exemptions and arrears due to the Electricité du Liban Corporation. Sadi explained that the main problem in the sector lies in the lack of production capacity, noting that factories currently supply only about a third of the demand. He pointed to the interest of 24 companies in investing in the energy sector, while procedures are continuing to purchase electricity from Türkiye via Syria, in addition to discussing importing electricity from Syria. Sadi stressed the work to ensure Lebanon’s independence in importing gas by land or sea, stressing the need for the country not to remain hostage to any party.
