Prime Minister Nawaf Salam confirmed in an interview with Al-Sharq Bloomberg that Lebanon wants a relationship with Iran based on mutual respect. He pointed out that he requested the appointment of a new ambassador to Iran to replace the previous ambassador. Salam pointed out that “Lebanon is committed to extending state sovereignty,” and continued, “The Lebanese agreed to limit weapons to the state, and Hezbollah must abide by it.” "We want a banking system that stops corruption, money smuggling, and financing terrorist networks," he said. He added: "We presented a draft to the House of Representatives that paves the way for an agreement with the International Monetary Fund." Salam pointed out that the UNIFIL force in southern Lebanon will not continue in its current form, announcing great cooperation with Syria to control the borders and prevent drug smuggling.
