Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the headquarters of the US State Department in Washington, in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Youssef Raji, US State Department Advisor Dan Holler, Lebanese Ambassador to the United States of America Nada Hamada Moawad, and US Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa. During the meeting, they discussed developments in Lebanon and the region, and the path to restoring Lebanon’s full sovereignty. President Salam stressed that Lebanon looks forward to a renewed partnership with the United States that keeps pace with the project of rebuilding the state and strengthening its legitimate institutions. President Salam stressed the necessity of moving to the stage of activating the tripartite framework and translating the principles of reciprocity and interimity into practical steps and tangible results on the ground, leading to Lebanon restoring its full sovereignty, achieving complete Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory, and confining arms to the state over its entire territory. In this context, he stressed the importance of setting a clear timetable for implementing the commitments contained in the framework, ensuring the progress of the paths of Israeli withdrawal, extending state authority, and exclusivity of weapons, in addition to establishing a reliable verification mechanism to follow up on implementation and ensure adherence to pledges, in a way that prevents non-implementation from being used as an excuse to disrupt the path. President Salam stressed that the tripartite framework is not limited to security arrangements, but also includes supporting the government’s efforts in relief, recovery and reconstruction, rehabilitating infrastructure and basic services, and creating conditions for the return of the displaced and settling them in their areas. In this context, he stressed the importance of mobilizing American and international support for the path of return and recovery, especially in the areas affected by the war. He also stressed the importance of continuing American support for the Lebanese Army and strengthening its capabilities, enabling it to carry out its responsibilities and extend state authority over its entire territory. For his part, Minister Rubio affirmed the United States’ commitment to supporting Lebanon and its legitimate institutions, and continuing to support the Lebanese army and enhancing its capabilities. He also stressed the importance of continuing to implement the tripartite framework in order to achieve stability and security.
