At dawn on Monday, Israeli warplanes launched a series of raids on areas in southern Lebanon, most notably Wadi Zabqin, the outskirts of the town of Hadada, and the area between the towns of Tibnin and Haris, while artillery shelling continued on Wadi Zabqin.
Information received from the south indicated repeated raids on Wadi Zebqin during the dawn hours, targeting the area between Hadada and Haris, in addition to reports of raids in the direction of Nabatiyeh Al-Fawqa. This coincided with continuous combing in the vicinity of Zawtar.
Lebanese fears about the expansion of operations
Today's raids come amid fears that Israel will expand its operations in southern Lebanon in the coming weeks, after an escalation in bombings and bulldozing operations in recent days. This concern coincides with the approaching Israeli elections scheduled for October 27, and the faltering course of the Lebanese-Israeli negotiations.
Concerns focus on the possibility of the operations extending to other areas, including Iqlim al-Tuffah and Tilal al-Rayhan, with no confirmed indications so far of the start of new Israeli operations in them.
Meeting in Washington
Lebanon is also awaiting a meeting between Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington, amid Lebanese aspiration to exert American pressure to prevent the expansion of Israeli operations.
