Libyan authorities announced on Sunday the seizure of nearly 100,000 "ecstasy" narcotic pills designed in the likeness of the face of the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, as part of a smuggled shipment from Europe. Images published by a security agency in Tripoli showed bags filled with brown pills embodying Gaddafi's face and shoulders, with his distinctive features and clothing engraved on their surface. The Deterrence Apparatus for Combating Terrorism and Organized Crime indicated that information had been received by the investigation and arrest unit regarding a criminal network active in smuggling prohibited substances from a European country to promote them inside Libya.
