Princess Astrid, the elder sister of the late Norwegian King Harald V, died today, Friday, at the age of 94, just two days after she participated in his official funeral in the capital, Oslo.
The Norwegian Royal Palace said in a statement that King Haakon VIII received “with deep sadness” the news of the death of his aunt, Princess Astrid, noting that flags in the Royal Palace were flown at half-mast to mourn her.
King Haakon mourned his aunt, praising the commitment, warmth and sincerity she had shown throughout her life in serving the royal family and Norwegian society, in addition to her cheerful spirit and influential presence.
The late princess's last public appearance was during the funeral of her brother, King Harald, which was held on Wednesday in Oslo Cathedral, where she bid him farewell with moving words and thanked him for everything that brought them together throughout their lives.
