The US Department of Treasury announced the imposition of a new package of sanctions targeting individuals and entities in Lebanon, Iraq, the UAE, Turkey, and Syria, as part of an update by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) to the List of Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons (SDN). The measures targeted four Lebanese individuals who the Treasury said are linked to Hezbollah or its financial networks: Abdullah Hanieh, Hussein Ibrahim, Ghaith Hussein Wehbe, and Mervat Jamil Zein El Dine, while subjecting them to related secondary sanctions. The list also included two Lebanese companies: "Gold Pro SARL" in Beirut, which the Treasury linked to Hamdi Zaher El Dine, and "Youssef Ibrahim Mansour & Partner for Money Exchange," operating in Chtoura and Zahle. The sanctions also targeted Iraqi individuals, some of whom Washington said are linked to Kataib Hezbollah, alongside individuals and entities connected to financial and commercial networks subject to US sanctions. Simultaneously, OFAC amended licensing policies related to Iran as part of what the Treasury described as an "economic pariah operation," announcing that license applications regarding Iran will be subject to a presumption of denial, except for cases mandated by law or those related to specific circumstances, including the protection of life, physical safety, or the environment.
