The Board of Directors of the Electricité du Liban Corporation issued the following statement: In implementation of the decision of the Board of Directors of the Electricité du Liban Corporation issued on Friday, 08/14/2026, requiring public administrations, institutions, and municipalities to pay their due duties and dues to the corporation, In addition to the decision to grant the concerned authorities a period of five working days to settle their situation, under penalty of cutting off their electrical power starting this Monday, the Board of Directors of the Electricité du Liban Corporation is interested in clarifying to public opinion the following: First: The Electricité du Liban Corporation, in implementation of the decision of the Board of Directors, began to cut off electricity supply to the departments, institutions, and municipalities that did not take the initiative to pay the dues owed to them, and did not communicate with the Corporation within the specified period to settle their situation or to request an additional period and determine a clear mechanism for paying what is due. Second: The Board of Directors of the Electricité du Liban Corporation extends its thanks to all the public departments, institutions, and municipalities that responded to the Council’s decision and took the initiative to pay their dues, or part of them, because of this direct contribution to supporting the continuity of the public facility and securing electrical supply. The Council also calls on those who have paid part of their dues to take the initiative to pay the entire remaining balance within a maximum period of ten days from the date of issuance of this statement, in order to avoid taking the prescribed measures against them. Third: The Electricité du Liban Foundation urges all public administrations and institutions and municipalities, as well as the concerned subscribers, to take the initiative to pay their due duties, whether directly with the Electricité du Liban funds, or through transfers made by the Ministry of Finance to the corporation’s accounts, each according to the legally approved mechanism. The Corporation confirms that regular collection and payment of dues constitute an essential element to enable it to ensure the continuity of electrical supply and the proper functioning of the public facility, especially in light of the current financial and economic conditions, the high cost of fuel and oil prices globally, and the additional burdens resulting from international developments and crises on the cost of electricity production. Fourth: The Board of Directors reiterates that the measures taken are applied to all concerned parties according to unified standards, and that their purpose is not to cut off the supply itself, but rather to collect public funds owed to the Electricité du Liban Corporation, achieve equality between subscribers, and ensure the continuity of the public utility and the Corporation’s ability to provide electricity. Finally, the Council calls on all parties that are still behind in payment to immediately initiate contact with the Electricité du Liban and settle their situations within the specified deadlines, to avoid cutting off their electricity in accordance with the decisions of the Board of Directors.
