Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa participated in a meeting via video communication technology with a number of leaders of Middle Eastern countries at the invitation of the Presidency of the European Council and the European Commission. The meeting discussed military developments in the region, ways to reduce escalation, and support the diplomatic track. Al-Sharaa believed that what we are witnessing of continued Iranian attempts to destabilize Arab capitals, and interventions that affect the core of Arab national security, is condemnable in the strongest terms. He said: "Our position was and remains firm in condemning all forms of attacks against Arab sovereignty." He pointed out that the current escalation represents an existential threat to the entire region. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz and strikes on the energy infrastructure in the Gulf threaten global economic stability. Al-Sharaa added: “We stand with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun in disarming Hezbollah, and we support the serious and decisive steps taken by the governments of Iraq and Lebanon to remove the danger from their countries and prevent any slide toward conflict.” He expressed his belief that the stability of Syria is the cornerstone of the stability of the Arab Levant and the region. He said: "We coordinated our unified position with the countries of the region and strengthened our defense forces on the borders as a precaution and to prevent cross-border organizations from using our lands."
