The political office of the Lebanese Phalange Party warned Hezbollah of the consequences of re-involving Lebanon in the spiral of escalation and war, especially after the threats of its Secretary-General before the end of the term of the Iranian-American memorandum of understanding, and attempts to disrupt the state-led path to save Lebanon from the repercussions of the wars it has been involved in, noting that “this comes as the Speaker of the Iranian Shura Council, Muhammad Baqer Qalibaf, reveals his continued direct contact with fighters on the front lines in Lebanon, in further confirmation of the extent of Iranian interference in the matter.” Lebanese and on continuing to deal with Lebanon as an Iranian arena of influence.” The Phalange Political Bureau confirmed in a statement after its regular meeting, headed by the party’s head, MP Sami Gemayel, that Lebanon does not have the luxury of returning to wars for which the Lebanese alone pay in terms of their lives, security, stability and economy. He called on the executive authority to assume its full responsibilities and take all necessary measures to implement its decisions related to restricting weapons to the state, as it is the only way to protect Lebanon and its sovereignty and prevent any party from dragging it into a confrontation in which the state has no decision. He stressed that Hezbollah, by keeping its weapons outside the authority of the state and threatening to reopen the fronts, is bringing the occupation, deepening the suffering of the Lebanese, and continuing to cause displacement and destruction. On the other hand, the Political Bureau rejected any new tax increases or measures that would increase the burdens on citizens before achieving the required structural reforms, most notably reforming state institutions, stopping waste, evasion, and the illegal economy, and addressing financial imbalances, considering that it is not permissible to burden the Lebanese with additional burdens while basic reforms are still pending. The Political Bureau noted the approval of the abolition of the death penalty, as an advanced legislative step consistent with protecting the right to life and with the development of the human rights system. On the other hand, the Political Bureau renewed the Phalange Party’s position of rejecting the amnesty law in its current form, stressing that addressing grievances and lifting injustice against those who deserve it must be done without turning amnesty into a means of escaping punishment or expanding the circle of its beneficiaries at the expense of justice and the rule of law.
