The Prime Minister received a delegation of MPs headed by MP Melhem Khalaf, who presented him with a petition signed by 86 MPs demanding the continuation of the UNIFIL mission in the south.
Salam stressed the need for a United Nations force to carry out three basic tasks: monitoring, reporting, coordination and communication.
Khalaf pointed out after the meeting that the petition expresses a “clear will to move towards a national decision to maintain the UN umbrella,” in light of the “difficult stage” that the region is going through.
He stressed the need for "permanent stability in Lebanon, especially in the south," by adhering to the presence of UNIFIL since its establishment in 1978.
