The Ministry of Public Works and Transport announced that “the work carried out by the Ministry at the damaged Al-Qaqa’iya Bridge is progressing, as the workshop has moved to the stage of constructing the ferry over which the temporary crossing corridor will be built, with the aim of re-securing movement of traffic through this vital point over the Litani River.” She said in a statement: “The Ministry’s field teams and machinery are currently working on installing the first row of pipes, followed by the installation of a second row, and then completing the backfills and work necessary to construct the road above the ferry and put it into service.” The Qaqaaiya Bridge is of particular importance in the road network in southern Lebanon, as it constitutes a local link between the banks of the Litani River and a number of districts, and one of the important corridors linking the Nabatieh district with the Bint Jbeil district, which makes re-securing traffic through it a priority to facilitate the movement of people and maintain communication between the regions.” The Ministry of Public Works and Transport continues to monitor the progress of the workshop until the completion of the work, as part of its efforts to rehabilitate damaged roads and bridges and restore connectivity to the road network in various regions.
