US Central Command announced that US forces, in cooperation with the Saudi Armed Forces, carried out precise air strikes targeting sites it said belonged to “pro-Iranian elements” in eastern Iraq. The command explained that the strikes targeted logistical sites and weapons depots used by these groups, noting that they were moving under the guidance of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard to target American forces and the energy infrastructure in Saudi Arabia. The statement noted that American and Saudi fighter jets participated in carrying out the strikes, in an operation described as a “strong response” to more than 30 drone attacks attributed to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard during the past 72 hours. For his part, the official spokesman for the Saudi Ministry of Defense, Major General Turki Al-Maliki, announced that the Saudi Armed Forces, in coordination with the US Central Command, launched “specific specific strikes” against targets belonging to those militias inside Iraqi territory, against the backdrop of the attacks that targeted oil installations in the Kingdom. Al-Maliki added that the Kingdom "does not seek escalation, but will respond to any aggression it is exposed to."
