What is the truth about the damage to the casino bridge columns?
Fady Mahouly
The Ministry of Public Works and Transport clarified in a statement what was circulated on some social media regarding the presence of cracks in the columns of the Casino Bridge on the western lane towards Beirut.
She said: It is important for the Ministry of Public Works and Transport to confirm the following:
First: The information circulating about damage to the bridge columns is inaccurate. Field inspections conducted by the Ministry's specialized technical teams showed that the columns were completely intact and had not been subjected to any cracks or structural damage.
Second: The accident that occurred at approximately 5:40 pm on Saturday afternoon was represented by a vehicle colliding with the iron railing, which led to its damage at the accident site, without any impact on the structural integrity of the bridge.
Third: The concerned teams began treating the damage to the iron guard, and temporary cement barriers were placed at the accident site, pending the completion of the required work, in order to ensure traffic safety.
The Ministry called on honorable citizens to be accurate in circulating information, and to obtain news from its official sources, to avoid causing unjustified anxiety.
It confirmed its continued monitoring and maintenance of the road and bridge network, to ensure public safety.
